Accessibility Statement

Spatrian is committed to making soccer-based PE accessible to all learners, regardless of physical ability, learning differences, or assistive technology needs.

Our Commitment

We believe every child deserves access to quality physical education that develops both body and mind. Spatrian is designed from the ground up to accommodate diverse learners — including those with IEPs, 504 plans, physical disabilities, and neurodivergent learning styles.

We build to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and design for use with assistive technology. We have not had an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance — what we have and have not checked is set out below.

Web Accessibility Features

  • Full keyboard navigation support across all interactive elements
  • ARIA labels and landmarks for screen reader compatibility
  • Minimum 4.5:1 color contrast ratios for text we can measure automatically (our checker skips gradient and translucent backgrounds)
  • Resizable text up to 200% without loss of content or function
  • Focus indicators visible on all interactive controls
  • No content relies solely on color to convey information
  • Video content includes descriptive text alternatives
  • Reduced motion support for users who prefer minimal animation
  • Responsive design functional at all zoom levels and screen sizes

Adaptive PE Curriculum

  • Modified drill progressions for varying physical abilities
  • Seated and low-impact alternatives for every activity
  • Adjustable pace and rest periods in all lesson plans
  • Visual, auditory, and text-based instruction options
  • IEP/504 goal alignment in progress tracking
  • Cognitive-only assessment mode (no physical requirements)
  • Sensory-friendly interface option (reduced visual complexity)
  • Custom rubric creation for individual accommodation needs

The Audio Coach

Drills are coached out loud rather than read off a screen. Two things about that matter for accessibility:

  • Nothing is audio-only. Every line the coach speaks is printed on screen at the same moment, so a deaf or hard-of-hearing student follows exactly the same session as anyone else — the spoken track is an addition, never the only channel.
  • Nothing is screen-only. A student who cannot comfortably read a phone mid-drill gets the whole session spoken, including setup, corrections and the countdown.
  • Voice, speaking rate and how much the coach talks are set per child; the “light” cue density strips the track back to essentials for a child who finds constant talking distracting.
  • Where a child has an adaptive PE plan, the coaching track is adjusted to match it: the pace is stretched, repetitions are removed, and sensory cues are added.
  • Headphone and lock-screen controls work, so the session can be paused without unlocking a device.

Assistive Technology Support

Spatrian is built to standard ARIA and keyboard conventions, which most assistive technology relies on. We would rather tell you exactly what we have put in front of a real tool than imply we have tested everything.

Tested with:

  • VoiceOver (macOS and iOS)
  • Built-in operating system zoom and text scaling

Not yet tested with. These should work — nothing in the interface is built against them — but we have not verified it, and we will not say we have:

  • NVDA and JAWS screen readers (Windows)
  • TalkBack (Android)
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice control
  • Switch access devices
  • ZoomText

Standards & Compliance

We aim to conform to the following standards:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA
  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III
  • EN 301 549 (European accessibility standard)

We check colour contrast automatically before a release. We do not currently run a scheduled independent audit; when we do, this page will say when the last one was and what it found.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some features have current limitations we are working to resolve:

  • Video analysis visualizations (heatmaps, trajectory overlays) have limited screen reader descriptions — text summaries are provided as alternatives
  • Real-time WebSocket updates may not be announced immediately to screen readers — manual refresh option is available
  • Some third-party embedded content (payment processing) may not fully meet our accessibility standards

We are actively working to address these limitations in upcoming releases.
